Our learning program for English focuses on developing our students into successful learners with literacy skills to help them achieve success in all learning areas. We understand the importance of creating a strong skill base for our students and aim to support learner confidence in each of the key focus areas of speaking and listening, reading and viewing, and writing. We aim to create positive learning environments and encourage open discussions on analysing and reviewing texts. An explicit writing process is taught to all students so every learner can effectively plan, draft, edit, and publish their writing.
Objectives in English
- To foster a love of learning.
- Create confident and competent writers, whether it is trying to persuade audiences or creating imaginative worlds for others to be lost in.
- Encourage students to be widely read and be inspired by what they learn.
- Focus on making our students confident communicators in both written and spoken forms.
CONNECT engages students in an integrated English and Humanities program that focuses on developing the skills and knowledge to actively contribute to society, including speaking and listening, reading and viewing, and writing.
Research demonstrates that students create more real-world connections in an integrated classroom, as they become more actively engaged in their learning.
